Monitoring of Carbon Monoxide Poisoning. Update as of October 15, 2012
Three people have died from CO poisoning over the past two weeks in two separate incidents. The first was caused by soot blocking the flue of a boiler’s exhaust vent, while the second occurred due to a malfunction in a coal-fired convector heater.
Since September 1, 2012, 49 incidents of CO poisoning have been reported to the surveillance system, affecting 97 people, 64 of whom were transported to a hospital emergency department.
The improper use of a brazier or barbecue inside a residence caused two incidents of accidental poisoning, affecting 7 people, 5 of whom were hospitalized.
