Monitoring of Carbon Monoxide Poisoning. Bulletin for January 3–16, 2011.
Key points for Weeks 1 and 2 (January 3–16, 2011)
The number of reported cases of carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning is significantly lower (n=73) than that observed during the same period last year (n=148), which was marked by a cold snap.
Three CO poisoning incidents occurring in a public building were reported to the surveillance system. The first incident, linked to the malfunction of a gas-fired radiant panel heating system in a church, involved 50 people. The second report involved 8 people in a reception hall. The third, which occurred in a woodworking showroom and was linked to the dislodgement of a boiler exhaust pipe, exposed 5 people.
Between January 3 and 16, 2011, a death due to accidental CO poisoning, which occurred in a residence in Pas-de-Calais, was reported to the surveillance system.
