Monitoring of Carbon Monoxide Poisoning. 2013–2014 Heating Season Report.

Highlights

During the 2013–2014 heating season, the following were observed:

  • a 13% decrease in the number of reports compared to the previous heating season, likely due to generally mild weather conditions during the winter,

  • a peak in CO poisoning in week 47 linked to a snow and ice storm,

  • a 37% decrease in the number of accidental deaths from CO poisoning compared to the previous heating season,

  • an increase, both in number and proportion, in poisonings caused by generators or outdoor heaters/barbecues compared to the previous heating season,

  • a single poisoning incident in a place of worship linked to radiant panel heating.
