Men's Health, No. 322: The Future of Old Age. Special Report.

The report, produced in collaboration with the CNAV, outlines the characteristics of aging in France: life expectancy, disability-free survival, and mortality rates for those aged 75 and older, broken down by leading causes of death. The two main pillars of the institutional framework are briefly described: home care and home hospitalization, as well as long-term care facilities, with a glossary-style overview of the relevant institutions. As part of the project to implement the long-term care allowance, a partnership was established among pension funds for a pilot program in twelve departments (long-term care needs are assessed using the AGGIR grid). The assessment one year later helped clarify the characteristics of the affected population (age, living environment, housing conditions, needs to be considered) and measure the utility of the allowance. Also presented are a CNAV survey on the changing role of older adults within families and the development of the concept of a gerontological network, derived from the notion of a gerontological catchment area, developed by the CRAM in Montpellier. Finally, individual aspects are addressed: home-delivered meals, osteoporosis, loneliness (or isolation), and housing.
