Introduction to Community Psychology.
What is community psychology? This emerging discipline promotes an approach grounded in the values of solidarity and social justice, the commitment of professionals, and the pursuit of participation by the communities affected by interventions. It focuses on the community dimension (equitable, ecological, collaborative, and supportive) of health initiatives, health promotion, and local development. It examines the mechanisms underlying the implementation and success of such initiatives. This Introduction to Community Psychology, the first French-language book on the discipline, was written by a collective of 17 psychologists and sociologists. Intended for academics, faculty members, and students seeking a framework to develop new forms of action and research, it will also be of interest to practitioners in the field—psychologists or social workers working in health care, health prevention/promotion, local social development, or regional and ministerial political structures—who wish to enrich their practice through innovative interventions.[R.A]
