Hygiene and the Prevention of Infectious Diseases: Attitudes of the French Population, Trends, and the Impact of INPES Information Campaigns.
The National Institute for Prevention (INPES) is one of the agencies contributing to public health safety in France. Established in 2002, it succeeded the French Committee for Health Education (CFES), with the mission of implementing, on behalf of the government, prevention, information, health education, and communication initiatives for public health programs. Since 2004, INPES has contributed to the prevention and management of emergency or exceptional situations with collective health consequences. Its actions are supported by scientific research on the knowledge, perceptions, attitudes, and behaviors of the general public and healthcare professionals regarding numerous health issues; the studies conducted aim to identify the drivers and barriers to communication and assess their impact in order to adjust them. More specifically, INPES’s Infectious Diseases and Vaccinations program places significant emphasis on promoting hygiene behaviors to prevent seasonal viral infections. [summary excerpt]
