Religion, health, illness.

Religion and health have been intertwined for thousands of years. The success of modern medicine and surgery does not prevent a portion of the population from turning to religious therapy when ill. There is a cultural predisposition toward religious therapies; this is rooted in several psychological factors: the search for meaning, a place for the supernatural, and so on. For patients who turn to these therapies, they believe they are giving themselves a better chance of recovery.
