Preventing Violence: Learn More [Bibliography]

We have chosen to focus this section on community violence—that is, violence between individuals who are not related—including urban violence, rape, and assault, as well as violence in institutional settings such as schools, workplaces, detention centers, and healthcare facilities. This particular form of violence should be distinguished from collective violence, which is perpetrated by people identifying as a group against another group in order to achieve political, economic, or social objectives (armed conflicts, genocide, terrorism, organized crime). More specifically, we will address the phenomenon of violence in healthcare and social services, schools, the workplace, prisons, and finally, urban settings, through a thematic list of books, articles, and resource organizations. Educational tools will be presented by type of medium (video, software, educational kit, exhibition); journals and websites will be listed in alphabetical order.[author’s abstract]
