Occupational risks associated with neurodegenerative diseases

Despite the challenges involved in studying occupational risk factors for neurodegenerative diseases—particularly those related to the retrospective assessment of exposures—the most consistent findings concern pesticides and Parkinson’s disease, which is, in fact, recognized as an occupational disease under certain conditions. The role of other exposures has been suggested, such as lead in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis or cognitive stimulation in dementia.
