Editorial. Occupational Health: What Are the Public Health Implications?

In the spring of 2007, Public Health issued a call for papers on the topic of occupational health. The importance of occupational health for public health, highlighted by this call, was confirmed by the numerous article proposals received by the editorial board: in total, 31 proposals for studies, case studies, initiatives, or reflections were submitted, reflecting the current interest in occupational health. Among these, the editorial team selected 19 articles featured in this issue, with the others potentially to be published in future issues. Several approaches could have been considered for organizing this Public Health supplement: by pathology, by vulnerable population, by type of intervention... Ultimately, three approaches were chosen, corresponding to three phases—study, action, and reflection—that align with a public health strategy: monitor and measure, prevent and act, evaluate and plan.[article excerpt]
