Division of Noncommunicable Diseases and Injuries
The Division of Noncommunicable Diseases and Injuries conducts epidemiological surveillance of noncommunicable diseases and injuries, their main determinants, and their complications with the aim of:
objectively assess the epidemiological situation and gain a better understanding of the link between risk factors, determinants, or various exposures and the onset of diseases;
better meet the growing demand for indicators useful for guiding and evaluating national, regional, and local public policies, particularly in the field of prevention, as well as to better address social and territorial inequalities, with the aim of reducing the burden;
to produce internationally comparable indicators.
To fulfill its missions, the division utilizes medical-administrative databases, registry data, and mortality data; collaborates on the design and implementation of national health surveys conducted through interviews; develops specific surveillance systems with continuous data reporting; and conducts one-time or repeated thematic surveys. It relies on networks of partners, particularly research teams with whom it establishes one-time or long-term projects. Finally, it collaborates on European and international working groups or projects within its field of expertise.
