Effects of evidence-based psychosocial interventions (well-being, behavior, substance use, academic performance, etc.) - Psychosocial skills, substance use prevention, and sexual health

One of the origins of the design of programs based on psychosocial skills stems from researchers whose goal was to reduce the public health issues among young people that were of greatest concern to society. Among the two main topics studied, it is worth noting the use of psychoactive substances and issues related to sexuality. It was precisely these two prevention themes that were selected in the Inserm Collective Expert Report titled *Health Education. Approaches and Methods, published in 2001. In the evaluation chapter of this collective review, it is noted that some of the scientifically evaluated programs were effective, while others were not. In fact, it is the quality of the design and implementation that matters, not the type of approach—even when it comes to psychosocial skills. Two emblematic programs will be presented: the one designed by Gilbert Botvin addressing the issue of addiction, called Life Skills Training, and the one designed by Douglas Kirby, addressing risks related to sexuality, called Safer Choices. These programs generally consist of a generic component (general skills) and a specific component related to the prevention theme, namely information or skills specific to that theme. The current question is how to transfer effective, theme-specific prevention programs to other themes. Do addiction prevention programs have an effect on sexual risks? Do they have an effect on violence prevention? Under what conditions? International organizations have produced thematic international frameworks: UNESCO-WHO-UNICEF on sexuality, UNODC on drugs. The World Bank has produced a generic framework, but with the goal of economic success.
