Surveillance of Gastroenteritis in Mayotte. Epidemiological Update as of November 8, 2017.
Epidemiological Situation
Every year, an increase in cases of gastroenteritis is observed in Mayotte between June and September. In this context, several indicators are routinely collected and analyzed: - the number of consultations for acute diarrhea reported by physicians in the Mayotte sentinel network, - the number of visits for acute gastroenteritis recorded at the emergency department of the Mayotte Hospital Center (CHM).
In 2017, an overall increase in these indicators was observed between July and September. The incidence of acute diarrhea and gastroenteritis reported by sentinel physicians and emergency departments has been declining for the past 8 weeks. It fell slightly below seasonal averages in week 44.
The beginning of November appears to signal the end of the gastroenteritis outbreak in Mayotte.
