Surveillance of Bronchiolitis in Mayotte. Epidemiological Update as of March 20, 2017.

Epidemiological Situation

In Mayotte, surveillance of bronchiolitis is based on activity data from the emergency department of the Mayotte Hospital Center (CHM) and from the network of sentinel physicians.Following an initial epidemic wave in December 2016, an increase in bronchiolitis activity in the CHM emergency department was observed in February, a few weeks after schools reopened.During the week of March 6–12, 2017, the proportion of emergency department visits for bronchiolitis among children under 2 years of age decreased to 20%, but consultations for bronchiolitis among sentinel physicians increased to 2.7% of all consultations. In this context, it is important to remind the public of hygiene measures to limit the spread of this illness.
