Surveillance of Bronchiolitis in Mayotte. Epidemiological Update as of April 27, 2017.

Epidemiological Situation

In Mayotte, bronchiolitis surveillance is based on activity data from the emergency department of the Mayotte Hospital Center (CHM) and from the network of sentinel physicians. The 2016–2017 bronchiolitis epidemic, which began in December, has continued over the past two weeks.Despite a slight decrease in week 15, activity in the CHM emergency department for bronchiolitis has remained generally stable since the last epidemiological update. Over the past week, the proportion of visits for bronchiolitis among children under 2 years of age stood at 23%, which is above the epidemic threshold. In total, between December 5, 2016, and April 23, 2017, 616 visits for bronchiolitis among children under 2 years of age were recorded in the CHM emergency department. In this epidemic context, it is important to remind the public of appropriate preventive measures.
