Status of Leptospirosis in Réunion. Epidemiological Update as of April 26, 2018.
Summary
As of April 23, 2018, the number of leptospirosis cases reported in Réunion is higher than historical data from 2008 (the year the surveillance system was established) through 2017. Investigations (epidemiological, biological, and environmental) are ongoing to better characterize the epidemiological situation, the cases, and their risk exposures.Current temperature and rainfall conditions (including the recent Tropical Storm Fakir) are conducive to the survival of the bacteria responsible for the disease in the environment. The number of leptospirosis cases in Réunion could continue to rise.
