Influenza Surveillance in Réunion. Epidemiological Update as of September 27, 2018.
Epidemiological Situation
As in 2017, the seasonal flu surge began late this year (mid-August). Over the past 5 weeks (weeks 34 through 38), consultations for flu-like illness have been steadily increasing among doctors in the sentinel network and in the emergency departments of the island’s four hospitals. Twenty-two severe cases requiring intensive care have been reported, one of which resulted in death. The number of positive influenza test results continues to rise, with type A non-H1N1 viruses being the predominant strain in circulation. These data confirm the epidemiological trend of influenza in Réunion.
