Dengue Surveillance in Réunion. Epidemiological Update as of November 13, 2018.

Epidemiological Situation

Since the beginning of 2018, 6,657 biologically confirmed or probable cases of dengue (including 10 imported from Polynesia, Brazil, Thailand, the Maldives, India, and Myanmar) have been reported by private and hospital laboratories in Réunion. The only serotype identified in 2018 among locally acquired cases is DENV-2 (915 genotypes identified).

Data from October 22 to November 4 (weeks S43 and S44):

  • 11 probable or confirmed cases of dengue were diagnosed through laboratory testing (including 5 in week 43 and 6 in week 44), based on the date of symptom onset

  • Confirmed and probable cases were located: - In the west: Le Port and Saint Leu (1 case each) - In the south: Rivière Saint Louis (3 cases), Saint Louis (2 cases), and Le Tampon, L’Etang Salé, and St Pierre (1 case each) - In the north: one case in Saint Denis
