Dengue Surveillance in Réunion. Epidemiological Update as of May 2, 2017.

Epidemiological Situation

Since the beginning of the year, locally acquired dengue cases have once again been identified on the island. The virus is actively circulating in Saint-Paul, and sporadic cases have been identified in other municipalities. The establishment of local transmission of the virus, during a period when climatic conditions are conducive to the development of mosquito vectors and when new virus imports are possible, raises concerns about an intensification of viral circulation. In light of this situation, ARSOI has decided to move to Level 2A* of the dengue and chikungunya control plan: "Identification of moderate local viral circulation."

* Defined according to the Orsec system for combating dengue and chikungunya in Réunion, comprising 10 levels of risk and a graduated response
