Occitanie Public Health Bulletin. April 2018.

Key Points

  • Vaccine-preventable diseases remain prevalent in France, as evidenced by the resurgence of the measles epidemic in 2018

  • Vaccination coverage has improved in recent years in France and in Occitanie, particularly for hepatitis B.

  • However, vaccination coverage remains far too low to prevent the spread of certain diseases in Occitanie (particularly measles and meningitis C), and there are disparities between departments.

  • A mandatory vaccination requirement since January 1, 2018, to improve vaccination coverage: the expansion to 11 vaccines amounts to 10 injections (including combination vaccines) for children, spread over 2 years according to the vaccination schedule. More than 70% of children were already receiving these 10 injections during their first 2 years of life.

  • The importance of promoting vaccination in 2018 among healthcare professionals involved in vaccination and among parents of young children: a website for information: www.vaccination-info-service.fr
