Measles Surveillance in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine Region. Epidemiological Update as of April 11, 2018.

  • 63% of reported cases reside in Gironde

  • 21% were hospitalized (including one fatality)

  • 83% of cases were not properly vaccinated (self-reported data)

  • 25% of cases occurred in clusters (universities, healthcare facilities, schools, the traveling community, etc.)

  • Circulation of the D8 genotype of the virus only in 2018 and the last two months of 2017 in Nouvelle-Aquitaine (Measles National Reference Center, Caen University Hospital)

  • Insufficient vaccination coverage (71–81% depending on the department, with two doses of vaccine by 24 months); 95% coverage is necessary to eliminate the disease

  • New cases remain possible and may be identified retrospectively through ongoing investigations
