Hepatitis A Outbreak in Nouvelle-Aquitaine. Epidemiological Update as of January 18, 2018.

In summary

An outbreak of hepatitis A affected all departments in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region in 2017, particularly the Gironde, where more than half of the cases occurred. A cluster of cases in the general population linked to visits to the same restaurant contributed significantly to the increase in cases in this department in July and August. For the rest of the year, transmission among MSM was a major contributing factor. Overall, the number of hepatitis A cases has declined since August 2017 following an epidemic peak in July. The persistence of a high male-to-female sex ratio in the fourth quarter of 2017 indicates that HAV continues to spread among men in the 18–55 age group.
