HIV/AIDS Surveillance in Lower Normandy. Update as of March 28, 2014.
Mandatory Reporting of AIDS and HIV
In France, AIDS cases have been subject to mandatory reporting since 1986. This requirement is based on the reporting of any patient presenting with an infectious or neoplastic disease that is an initial manifestation of AIDS. This initial disease must be associated with a positive HIV test result or, in the absence of such a test, must be included in a sublist of diseases specifically associated with AIDS, such as Pneumocystis pneumonia or Kaposi’s sarcoma, if no other cause of immunodeficiency is identified.
