Key Points

Malaria

  • The number of malaria cases showed a slight increase but remained low over the past two weeks, with 9 cases reported (7 in S33 and 2 in S34, provisional data) compared to a total of 4 in S31 and S32. Two additional cases were reported retrospectively. Of these 9 cases—all caused by P. vivax—none were relapses. 
  • Since the beginning of the year, 151 cases of malaria have been recorded, including 9 in June, 10 in July, and 13 in August. 
  • Over the past three months, most infections occurred in gold-mining areas in the Savanes sector.

Acute Respiratory Infections

  • Flu-like illness: Flu activity was low across the territory; only a few Influenza B viruses were laboratory-confirmed over the past two weeks.
  • Bronchiolitis: Bronchiolitis activity was low, both at the CDPS clinics and in the emergency departments of the three sites of the French Guiana University Hospital (CHU de Guyane), and no RSV cases in children under 2 years of age were laboratory-confirmed over the past two weeks.
  • COVID-19: SARS-CoV-2 activity remained low. During S33 and S34, 4 specimens were laboratory-confirmed.

Diarrhea

  • Diarrhea-related activity was stable and low across the region.
