Montreal: Early childhood support to help children start school on the right foot.

A study conducted in Montreal, Canada, shows that before starting school, some children are vulnerable in terms of health, well-being, and social, emotional, and cognitive skills. And the less affluent the neighborhood, the greater the number of vulnerable children. This finding has prompted early childhood stakeholders to take action and work together. Among other initiatives, the allocation of childcare spots has been revised to take vulnerable neighborhoods into account; early educational intervention and developmental delay prevention programs have been provided with additional funding. The goal here is clearly to combat social inequalities in health.
