Antibiotic Use in the Private Sector in France, 2010–2020

The results for 2020 show a sharp decline in antibiotic use in the outpatient sector. This decline is largely attributable to the COVID-19 pandemic. ; The exceptional circumstances of 2020 led to a greater decrease in antibiotic use than all the cumulative declines over the past ten years combined.; Expressed as the number of DDDs per 1,000 inhabitants per day, consumption stood at 18.1 DDDs per 1,000 inhabitants per day in 2020, representing a 17% decrease compared to expected results. ; Expressed as the number of prescriptions per 1,000 inhabitants per day, consumption stood at 1.82 prescriptions per 1,000 inhabitants per day in 2020, representing an 18% decrease compared to expected results.
