Tuberculosis in Île-de-France. 2023 Report.
Key Points
Tuberculosis
With 1,769 cases reported in 2023, the number of tuberculosis cases diagnosed among residents of Île-de-France increased by 21% compared to 2022. This increase was observed across all departments in Île-de-France and across all age groups except the youngest (0–4 years). Île-de-France (19% of the French population) thus accounted for 36.4% of the 4,866 cases reported in France in 2023.
The number of multidrug-resistant tuberculosis cases in Île-de-France remained stable, with 27 cases reported by the CNR (representing 1.5% of cases in the region).
Treatment Outcomes
The number of treatment outcomes reported in 2023 (tuberculosis cases reported in 2022) remained low, at around 29%, and ranked among the regions with the lowest reporting rates for treatment outcomes. The national average was 48%. Ninety-five percent of these outcomes were reported via electronic reporting.
Latent Tuberculosis Infections
The number of latent tuberculosis infections (LTIs) reported in 2023—589 cases—increased sharply compared to 2022 (+33%). Of these LTI cases, 387 (66%) involved young people aged 15 to 17, many of whom were unaccompanied minors (MNA).
Surveillance Systems
The proportion of mandatory electronic reports (or tele-reports) for all associated notifications (notifications of active tuberculosis, notifications of latent tuberculosis infections, and notifications of treatment outcomes) was 20.1% in 2023, significantly lower than the tele-reporting rate in France outside the Île-de-France region, which stood at 60.8%. The first three quarters of 2024, however, showed an encouraging increase in tele-reported cases.
Since the completeness of the DO relative to the actual number of cases has not been reassessed for several years, a new national completeness study is scheduled for 2025.
Public health officials need the support of clinicians, microbiologists, and other frontline workers to strengthen electronic reporting and surveillance, which guide public health control measures.
