Drowning incidents in Occitanie. Update as of August 4, 2023.

Oscour® network emergency room visit indicators:
The national report from July 21 ranked Occitanie first among regions in terms of the number of drownings recorded during the period analyzed (ahead of Nouvelle-Aquitaine and Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes) with 69 drownings and 12 deaths, representing 17% (with percentages ranging from 13% in ARA to 100% in Corsica, which recorded only one drowning).
From June 1 to August 3 (unconsolidated data), 83 drowning cases were treated in emergency facilities in Occitanie (+14 compared to the latest national report, data as of July 12).
Two daily peaks in drowning cases were observed on July 8 and 15, 2023, with 11 and 13 cases treated, respectively.
40% of drowning cases treated in emergency departments in Occitanie involved children aged 5 or younger, and 37% involved people over 18.
The vast majority of emergency room visits for drowning occurred in coastal departments (86% in Hérault, Pyrénées-Orientales, Aude, and Gard).
