  • The adoption of electronic certification is higher in public (57.6%) and private (76.8%) healthcare facilities than in nursing homes (19.6%)

  • Electronic death certification remains underutilized in home settings (7.7%) and on public roads (3%) and could be facilitated by connecting municipalities to the HuBEE portal

Electronic certification data can be used for surveillance:

  • to measure the impact of epidemics such as COVID-19 or the flu

  • to identify unusual trends in certain causes of death
