National Study on Child Well-being (Enabee): “Feedback on the consultation process for the first edition of the study, from December 2021 to June 2023”
As part of the launch of the national study on children’s well-being (Enabee), Santé publique France organized a consultation process with stakeholders involved in the study and its implementation (healthcare professionals, parent-teacher associations, teachers’ unions, principals and teachers from randomly selected schools, etc.). This approach, which is uncommon in the field of epidemiology, facilitated dialogue between the project team and the stakeholders involved, thereby allowing for the incorporation of requests and feedback from stakeholders while also addressing concerns regarding the sensitive—and even taboo—topic of children’s mental health. More than 20 meetings were held between January 2021 and June 2023 to exchange information on the study’s objectives, its implementation in schools, and its initial results. These discussions led to concrete actions: modifications to the study questionnaire following the pilot phase, improved communication regarding the study and data collection methods, etc. They also yielded suggestions for improvements for the next edition (such as revising the study timeline and accommodating families who speak other languages). The majority of participants in the consultation welcomed the implementation of such a study and its methodology, and contributed significantly to its smooth conduct and success.
