Malaria Surveillance in Mayotte. 2021–2022 Surveillance Report.

Key Points

  • Between January 1, 2021, and December 31, 2022, 53 cases of malaria were reported to the Department of Health Security and Emergencies (DéSUS) of the Mayotte Regional Health Agency (ARS). All of these cases were imported.

  • More than half of the cases reported over the past two years (56.6%) were hospitalized, including 10% in intensive care.

  • Increase in the number of reported malaria cases in Mayotte since 2018, but these are predominantly imported cases

  • Mayotte officially entered the malaria elimination phase in 2014; maintaining malaria control policies is essential to prevent a resurgence of transmission in Mayotte.
