Malaria in Mayotte. 2023 Report.

Key Points

  • Between January 1, 2023, and December 31, 2023, 38 cases of malaria were reported to the Department of Health Security and Emergencies (DéSUS) of the Mayotte Regional Health Agency (ARS). All of these cases were imported.

  • Nearly 40 of the cases reported during the year were hospitalized, including 13.3% in intensive care.

  • No locally acquired cases since July 2020.

  • There has been an increase in the number of imported malaria cases in Mayotte since 2021.

  • Mayotte officially entered the malaria elimination phase in 2014. Maintaining malaria control policies is essential to prevent a resurgence of transmission in Mayotte.
