Key Points

Chikungunya

  • Chikungunya: Since August 23, 2024, 5,184 cases of chikungunya have been reported on the island, including 5,041 in 2025. The outbreak continues to spread, with nearly 1,800 cases detected in S09. The southern municipalities, including Le Tampon, continue to report the highest number of cases. However, the number of cases is also rising in St Leu, St Paul, St Denis, and Ste Marie.

  • Reunion is experiencing a chikungunya outbreak.

Whooping Cough

  • Since January 2025, a sharp resurgence of whooping cough has been observed. Vaccination remains the most effective way to protect the unborn baby and limit the spread of the disease.

Leptospirosis

  • 19 cases have been reported since January 1, 2025. The number of cases has increased over the past two weeks (6 cases occurred in weeks 8 and 9, respectively, compared to 7 in the first 7 weeks of 2025).

  • Recent heavy rains and flooding could lead to an increase in the number of cases in the coming weeks.

Acute Respiratory Infections (ARI)

  • Indicators in primary care and hospitals are at low levels with no public health impact.
