Dengue Surveillance in Réunion. Update as of May 25, 2021

Key Points

The outbreak continues at a high level (more than 2,000 confirmed cases each week for the past four weeks) and continues to affect the entire country despite the onset of the southern winter.

Given the increased severity of the outbreak this year, we urge healthcare professionals to remain vigilant for any warning signs (severe vomiting, severe abdominal pain, anorexia/refusal to drink) and to perform additional laboratory tests to detect early any potential deterioration in the patient’s condition.

Patients presenting with ophthalmological manifestations of dengue should be referred immediately to an ophthalmologist or an emergency department.
