Dengue Surveillance in Réunion. Epidemiological Update as of June 11, 2019.
Key Points
In S21 and S22, more than 5,000 clinically suggestive cases were reported, bringing the total to over 42,000 since the beginning of the year.
The number of confirmed cases is declining (Week 21=731 and Week 22=393, unconsolidated data). More than 15,000 cases have been confirmed since the beginning of the year.
However, all of the island’s municipalities remain affected by viral circulation.
Activity in the long-standing hotspots in the south continues to decline (except in St. Joseph, where it remains stable). As has been the case for several weeks, and despite a notable decline, St. Pierre remains the largest hotspot.
The municipalities to monitor are those in the west and north.
Circulation of the DENV1 serotype is spreading among locally acquired cases.
Vigilance remains essential regarding differential diagnoses (leptospirosis, measles, and Rift Valley fever).
