COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for Réunion as of December 31, 2020
Key Points
Decrease in virus circulation indicators; stable and moderate health impact. Need
to anticipate a possible resurgence of the epidemic at the end of the year.
In week 52, due to Christmas (holiday and public holiday), a decrease in testing activity was observed. The number of new cases, as well as the positivity rate, also decreased. Hospital surveillance indicators show a stable and moderate impact over time. Nevertheless, the virus is still circulating, and new virus introductions from travelers are being identified.
Clusters are being reported in workplaces, as well as following recreational activities, underscoring the need to adhere to preventive measures at all times and in all places, particularly during gatherings and break/meal times (moments of high transmission risk).
During this holiday season, it is necessary during investigations to inquire about family and/or social gatherings in order to identify clusters linked to these gatherings.
