Health Surveillance in the Aquitaine Region. Epidemiological Update as of August 5, 2015.

Mortality: The number of deaths recorded in July remains close to expected levels.

Emergency room visits by vulnerable populations: According to available data, emergency room activity for children under 1 year of age is slightly above the alert threshold. Emergency room activity for those aged 75 and older remains below expected levels for this period.

Chikungunya and dengue: enhanced surveillance in Gironde and Lot-et-GaronneSince May 1, 70 suspected cases have been reported. Among them, 1 imported case of dengue and 3 imported cases of chikungunya have been confirmed. In total, as of August 3, in the 20 metropolitan departments subject to enhanced surveillance, 405 suspected cases have been reported. Among these, 35 imported cases of dengue and 14 imported cases of chikungunya have been confirmed. There are no locally acquired cases.

Notifiable Diseases (ND) No unusual situation this week.

Acute Gastroenteritis (AG) Moderate and stable activity in Aquitaine. Nationally, activity is declining, with figures comparable to previous years.

Asthma and AllergiesIn Aquitaine, as in France, asthma and allergy activity remains moderate according to Oscour® and SOS Médecins. Forecast for this week: very low to low pollen allergy risk for grass pollens in the region.

Respiratory virology and enterovirus meningitis: The number of enterovirus meningitis cases (4 virology reports from the University Hospital and 1 from Oscour®) is beginning to decline, consistent with what is observed nationally.

ChickenpoxIn Aquitaine, chickenpox activity is declining, in line with expected levels for this time of year.

Heat-related illnessesIn Aquitaine, activity continues to decline, with heat-related cases accounting for 0.2% of total SOS Médecins activity and 0.5% of total Oscour® network activity in S31-2015. No heat wave is forecast by Météo France as of August 5, 2015.
