Health Monitoring in Normandy. Bulletin of October 15, 2025.

Key Points

Acute Respiratory Infections

  • Indicators for monitoring acute lower respiratory infections (ALRI) are generally stable in the community and in hospitals across all age groups. Compared to previous winter seasons, infection levels are low. According to virological data, ALRI activity is primarily driven by rhinoviruses and SARS-CoV-2.

COVID-19

  • The epidemic wave is still ongoing, but the peak has passed for those under 64. Emergency room visits and hospitalizations continue to rise among those over 64.

  • Virological data confirm these trends, with a decrease in virus detection in community and hospital samples as well as in wastewater, at levels close to those observed during the same period in 2024.

Bronchiolitis

  • Normandy is entering the pre-epidemic phase. Among children under 1 year of age, indicators of healthcare utilization for bronchiolitis continue to rise in hospitals and community medical settings. The detection rate of RSV (respiratory syncytial virus) in nasopharyngeal swabs across all age groups was also on the rise. Other viruses capable of causing bronchiolitis are also circulating, particularly rhinoviruses.
