Epidemiological surveillance in the Lorraine region. Update as of July 9, 2015.

Key Findings

  • In week 27, the number of allergy diagnoses recorded by emergency departments increased to 174, following a period of relative stability that lasted three weeks (during which an average of 110 diagnoses were made). During that same week, 22 weekly allergy diagnoses were made by the SOS Médecins Meurthe-et-Moselle association. This condition thus accounts for 1.4% of emergency department activity and 2.5% of the association’s activity. These figures remain within the fluctuations typically observed during the summer months.

  • Over the past three weeks, the number of asthma diagnoses recorded by emergency departments has remained stable, with 59 diagnoses in week 27, representing less than 0.5% of total diagnoses. The weekly number of diagnoses recorded by the SOS Médecins Meurthe-et-Moselle association decreased slightly in week 27, with 8 diagnoses. Nevertheless, the activity of the SOS Médecins Meurthe-et-Moselle association remains comparable to what is usually observed.

  • According to the National Aerobiological Surveillance Network (RNSA), the allergy risk is low to moderate for grass and nettle pollen in the four departments of Lorraine.

  • In week 27, the number of heat-related illness diagnoses recorded by emergency services in Lorraine increased fivefold, with 208 diagnoses compared to 41 in week 26. This increase represents a rise in activity of nearly 2% compared to the same period in previous years.

  • For the SOS Médecins Meurthe-et-Moselle association, the number of diagnoses of dehydration and heatstroke increased sixfold, with 31 diagnoses in week 27 compared to 5 in week 26. This activity, which exceeds that of previous years, accounts for nearly 4% of the association’s total activity.

  • An update on the monitoring of health indicators following the activation of Level 3—heat wave alert—of the 2015 National Heat Wave Plan is provided on pages 5 and 6.
