Public Health Bulletin: Vaccination in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes. April 2019.

Key Points

Increased vaccination uptake among infants born on or after January 1, 2018, for whom the expanded vaccination requirement applies:

  • +8.4 percentage points for the use of the hexavalent vaccine (usage rate in 2018: 98.3%; 2017: 90.0%)

  • +1.9 percentage points for vaccination coverage of the first dose of the pneumococcal vaccine (vaccination coverage in 2018: 99.4%; 2017: 97.8%)

  • +34.6 percentage points in vaccination coverage for the first dose of the meningococcal C vaccine (vaccination coverage in 2018: 77.1%; 2017: 42.5%)

Increase in vaccination coverage among children born before the law took effect:

  • +2.2 percentage points for first-dose MMR vaccination coverage among children who turned 12 months old in 2018 (87.7%) compared to those who turned 12 months old in 2017 (85.5%)

  • +3.2 percentage points for the first dose of the HPV vaccine among 15-year-old girls born in 2003 (27.6%) compared to girls born the previous year (24.4%)

The increase in vaccination coverage for the first dose of the meningococcal C vaccine at 5 months of age most likely contributed to the marked decrease in the incidence of invasive infections caused by this pathogen among infants under one year of age.
