Health Monitoring in Brittany. Bulletin dated September 18, 2026.
Key Points
Extreme Heat, Heat Wave
- The seasonal monitoring period has been extended through September 30, 2026.
Brittany has been under a green alert since the last heatwave in August, and we are seeing a return to seasonal norms in the number of emergency room visits and SOS Médecins consultations for heat-related conditions, which, as a reminder, include hyperthermia, dehydration, and, in the case of emergency room visits, hyponatremia.
Asthma
- As expected, in week 37, there was a very sharp increase in emergency room visits and SOS Médecins consultations among children under 15, linked to the start of the school year.
Lower Respiratory Tract Infections (LRTI)
- Activity is low, with sporadic detection of SARS-CoV-2 and influenza A in both Brest and Rennes.
Allergies
- Allergy activity has remained stable, falling within the usual seasonal fluctuations, both in emergency departments and at SOS Médecins, since the beginning of summer. Interpreting the data provided by SOS Médecins remains difficult due to the lack of data from SOS Brest and calls for caution.
Gastroenteritis
- Low activity. Activity across Brittany is considered low, with a slight increase in the number of emergency department visits and stable consultation numbers at SOS Médecins.
ENT Conditions
- Activity was relatively low during the summer. However, there was an overall increase in activity related to ENT conditions in week 37, both in emergency departments and at SOS Médecins, linked to the start of the school year.
