Asthma Health Monitoring - Back-to-School 2023. Weekly Update for September 5, 2023.

Week 35 (August 28–September 3, 2023):

  • In the Indian Ocean region, during the third week of school in Réunion and the second week in Mayotte, there has been an increase in the number of emergency department visits for asthma among children under 15 (106 visits vs. 71 in Week 34, a 30% increase), with a share of activity (8.5% vs. 6.7% in Week 34) comparable to that of previous years. The proportion of hospitalizations following an emergency department visit has remained stable over the past three weeks.

  • Nationally, across both networks, asthma-related visits among children under 15 are on the rise: SOS Médecins (+36%, or +70 visits), emergency departments (+27%, or +206 visits). The share of activity is also up slightly but remains at a low level and is comparable to that of previous years. The proportion of hospitalizations following a visit to the emergency department for asthma is up slightly (27% vs. 25% in Week 34 and 22% in Week 33).
