Santé publique France is France’s national public health agency. A public institution under the authority of the Minister of Health, created through the merger of several public institutions by Order No. 2016-246 of April 15, 2016, the agency works to promote public health. As a scientific, expert, and public health safety agency, its missions include:

  1. Epidemiological observation and monitoring of the health status of the population;
  2. Monitoring health risks threatening the population;
  3. Promoting health and reducing health risks;
  4. Developing prevention and health education;
  5. Preparation for and response to health threats, alerts, and crises;
  6. Issuing public health alerts.

The agency is organized into 12 scientific, cross-functional, or support divisions.

The agency’s strategic priorities and work program, established by its Board of Directors, are organized into three areas: Strengthening the capacity for anticipation and rapid response to address health threats; Measuring and assessing the extent of diseases and risk factors to guide their prevention and control; Strengthening the health impact of all public policies and the prevention and promotion of health.

Regional Administration

Responsibilities

The epidemiologist, reporting to the regional delegate, will contribute to all the work of the Regional Unit, with a focus on health surveillance, monitoring, and early warning. He or she will be responsible for the following duties in collaboration with the other epidemiologists in the Regional Unit. 

Activities

Participate in health monitoring and alert systems

  • Contribute to the processing of health signals (receipt, validation, and investigation; feedback)
  • Draft investigation reports
  • Contribute to responding to requests from the ARS, particularly regarding risk assessment in areas of competence of Santé Publique France
  • Participate in coordinating the regional health surveillance network
  • Participate in Santé publique France’s on-call system

Contribute to the design, implementation, and monitoring of surveillance systems and studies

  • Ensure the implementation and monitoring of surveillance systems and investigations, as well as data collection and quality
  • Conduct literature reviews.

Manage, analyze, and make data available

  • Contribute to the processing, quality control, and analysis of surveillance, survey, and study data (SNDS, Health Barometer, etc.)
  • Contribute to the improvement of computer programs for the analysis of surveillance data
  • Ensure the updating, monitoring, and optimization of databases in accordance with the GDPR
  • Contribute to making data produced by Santé publique France available to the ARS that is useful for implementing regional health policies.

Participate in the dissemination of results

  • Drafting investigation reports and feedback materials (Epidemiological Updates, Regional Health Surveillance Bulletins)
  • Contribute to the drafting of summary reports, particularly for decision-makers
  • Format and disseminate data and documents 

Participate in oral presentations

The epidemiologist will be required to represent the agency before institutional and scientific partners. He or she will participate in any activity falling within the agency’s mission and scope of expertise if necessary, in emergency situations, crises, or when required by the agency. The employee may be required to participate in other projects as needed.
