Strengthening participatory democracy in healthcare

From the 1978 Alma-Ata Declaration to the Global Resolution on Community Participation, milestones have been set at the international level to encourage community involvement in health policies. This contributes to people’s empowerment, improvements in the healthcare system, the reduction of inequalities, and more. However, this participation remains fragile, as demonstrated by the handling of the COVID-19 pandemic in many countries. This is why we must strengthen the environment necessary for its development.
